In the interim, I would like to know I'm not going to do things like bottom out the suspension. Either way, it took about a decade and then some to put all this weight on, and I'm guessing it won't all come off in a year or two. Not sure how low I'll be able to get it, at 220 I looked like a normal person, at 180 I was scrawny looking. Any ideas on where to search for spring rates so I can figure out the right one to get ordered?įor sure I'll be losing some weight, can't carry this for too long, as my doc has already told me I need to drop it or be ready for some really bad times in the future. Ideally, I hope to buy the bike, buy the springs, and ask them to install them and do any hydraulic work all at once and pick the bike up once the work is completed. I'm sure the folks at the dealership parts department can get whatever is available, but I'd like to make sure I'm going to get the right stuff the first time. Problem is, Ohlins doesn't make it easy to figure out what spring rates they offer. It's probably beyond the max rating of the bike period, but I have faith that springs appropriate for the weight I intend to put on the bike plus any necessary revalving will keep the rubber pushed into the pavement without bottoming out under load. She's nowhere near my size, but still, I am pretty sure my wight plus gear, plus the weight of another human plus gear is probably beyond the design specs of the stock suspension. In the meantime aside from being a big guy that probably needs to go to bigger springs in both the rear and forks, I also have a wife who likes to ride on the pillion. It took a long time to put all this weight on, it will probably take just as long to take it all off. I'm on the high side of 290, and while I do plan to drop some weight over the next year, it will likely be slow going. As I get closer to pulling the trigger on buying the best feeling bike I've ever had the pleasure of sitting on, I remember that most stock bikes are sprung for much smaller riders than me.
